I also accept started taking the batteries out when non in use. I don't KNOW that the remote operates when not in use, but the Roku box is on 24/seven for updates, then it stands to reason in that location is some advice going on between them when I'm not looking, which would further drain the batteries. Roku suggested I use the Smart Phone ap (with the earbuds on my telephone). So, at least, I could recharge the battery instead of buying new ones all the fourth dimension. I'll try it and come across if it drains my phone more than I will tolerate. For me, the earbuds were a godsend considering, at 62, I have trouble picking out conversations from TV feed. The earbuds pulled the spoken words to the front, every bit information technology were, and made it easier for me. Merely a adept surround system will practice the same, and I have one in a box waiting to exist hooked up, then there we go. Other than this glitch, I LOVE my Roku box. I merely cut my Telly cable yesterday, saving me $100/calendar month. So far, I have replaced everything I watched on Telly. Anything I haven't found (so far) I don't miss. I use my Roku to watch for a few hours each night, but I employ the headphones exclusively to not disturb others. I accept a set of rechargeable bateries and so I can swap them out at any time and I observe I get maybe three days before I have to change the batteries and put the one-time ones in the charger.
I don't know near the Roku 3, only it is a computer. When my iphone got hacked I read that one sign of a hacker is that the battery volition bleed abnormally fast. I would take no chances and return it. I still have a major virus from connecting my used Roku 3. That is later on the the computer repair for $120. I tin can only blazon near vi words and the page jumps away and I have to start all over again. It's a MAJOR PAIN.
On Youtube yous tin look upwards (Roku iii Hack) to learn that information technology can be washed.
I have the aforementioned problem simply found one thing that hellped a fleck. I accept out the batteries that are no longer working & put in another pair Then I keep the battiers that don't work and reuse them at a futurity fourth dimension. This way I get abut a calendar week out of a pair of batteries as opposed to 2 to 3 days.

my remote batteries last about 3 days, and I unplug the earbuds from the remote subsequently watching late night Roku. Still the batteries bleed faster than any comparable device I accept encountered. I noted the remote light flashes when the remote is accidently bumped...mayhap it sends a signal each time it is moved? At any rate it eats batteries much too fast.
With the ROKU iii if you get out the headphones plugged in yous will drain the battery very quickly. I use very adept rechargeable batteries then no real issue here I simply modify with new ones and charge the ones that need recharging. My prior ROKU was a ROKU Xl and the batteries lasted forever it seemed in that remote. Go effigy!
Same problem with my Roku 3 remote. Drains batteries like crazy. Thought it was only a pairing problem, but after realizing that I had to supervene upon the batteries every time I re-paired it (rarely apply the remote - use a Harmony remote for everything simply occasionally demand the R3 specific buttons). Should probably phone call Roku and see nigh getting it replaced. Obviously this is a common problem.
I've been using a Roku 3 for a couple of years at present. You lot cannot use headphones. They will drain the battery in a big bustle. You take to employ ear buds. And even the ear buds will drain the battery rapidly. But utilize the ear buds when you have to use them. Unplug the buds when not in employ. I have also tried using an external amp, but that doesn't seem to assist. If you utilise the ear buds the batteries bleed pretty quick.
This is a systemic problem with all Roku devices. If you become to the Roku Community information technology is the most talked about outcome. Roku devices do not work, they bleed the batteries in the remote every 7 to 10 days. Roku devices should exist recalled.
